The Climate Curriculum at Storth School

At Storth School, we educate pupils to see the awe and wonder in the world around us. Through a wide and varied curriculum, we aim to foster in our pupils a life-long passion and ambition to improve our environment, encourage them to take care and responsibility for their own actions and inspire others to do the same. In EYFS, our youngest learners explore the natural world during weekly forest school sessions and explore outdoors daily through play and directed activities. In Classes 2-4, climate and sustainability education is taught primarily through the Science and Geography curricula, which are often expanded upon using cross-curricular themes. In Citizenship and PSHE, pupils debate environmental issues, consider various perspectives and investigate collective actions and ‘green’ initiatives. All classes take part in whole school initiatives such as tree planting days and walks around our beautiful local area.

The new climate curriculum designs and integrates sustainability, green skills, and climate science into educational programs. They craft learning outcomes, lesson plans, and teaching resources, weaving climate literacy and social justice across subjects like science, geography, and citizenship for all age groups. These attached documents explain how we incorporate this into our teaching.
