Welcome to Class 4

Class 4 is home to our Year 5 and 6 children. It is a vibrant, inclusive, and engaging environment where a wide variety of learning opportunities allow every child—and especially those with particular interests—to flourish.

The class is taught by Mr Brabant and Mrs Goodfellow, and is also home to Louie the dog, who is a much-loved member of our classroom community.

Our Maths and Literacy lessons follow bespoke schemes: Abacus for Maths and Hamilton for Literacy. The rest of our curriculum draws on a wide range of subjects, including Science, History, Geography, Art, Design Technology, and RE, providing a rich and varied learning experience.

Children also benefit from a range of specialist teaching. Weekly music lessons are delivered by the Music Service, where pupils have the opportunity to learn the flute. Spanish is taught each week by our resident language teacher, Mrs Lay. In addition, PE lessons are led by our Dallam PE teacher, Mr Parkinson, giving Year 6 pupils a valuable chance to ask questions about secondary school while enjoying high-quality physical education.

During the Autumn term, the whole class attends swimming sessions at Carnforth Swimming Pool, taught by Mrs Goodfellow, who is an ASA-qualified swimming teacher and coach.

We are proud to offer two exciting residential experiences each year. The first is a two-night, three-day trip to the Lake District. The second takes place in the summer term and is a four-night, five-day adventure, alternating between the Lake District, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Scotland, and York.

Class 4 is a happy, welcoming place, and we greatly value volunteers’ support. Whether listening to children read, helping with Art and DT, or joining us on trips and residentials, their involvement makes a real difference.

Above all, our children are at the heart of everything we do. We aim to equip them with the knowledge, skills, and resilience they need as they prepare to leave primary school and begin their journey into secondary education.
