It has been lovely seeing all the children arriving at school ready to learn and have fun in Class 1. Over the next few weeks, we will be concentrating on settling in, getting used to the routine and having lots of fun.
We will be doing PE on a Tuesday afternoon and a Friday morning. Reception children will be given their Storth PE T-shirts and shorts this week. Please provide black tracksuit bottoms or leggings and PE pumps or Velcro trainers as well as a set of spare underwear and socks. This will remain in school until half term when it is sent home for washing. Nursery children do not require a PE kit, they can come to school in suitable clothing on these days. They need a spare set of clothes, underwear and socks in case of accidents and this can be left on their pegs, instead of bringing home each day.
All children require a pair of wellies that can be left in school all the time.
All Reception children require a book bag, these are available from the office for £4. Many of the Nursery children choose to have a book bag and they are then able to borrow books to share with you at home. To help with recognition of their bookbag we encourage the addition of a key ring so that they can quickly find their bag in the box.
Each day your child needs to bring their bookbag, a filled water bottle and a coat. The weather can change throughout the day and we will go outside as much as possible. As the weather gets colder please send in hat and gloves.
Each day the children will receive free fruit and milk is free until their 5th birthday. Once 5, this can be paid for via the CoolMilk website. We also have a healthy tuckshop each day, this includes toast, breadsticks or rice cakes and costs 20p. This can be paid weekly or half termly by cash or via BACs. Please let me know if you have paid via BAC’s. This is very popular in Class 1, but it is totally optional.
Lunches need to be ordered via Lunchshop before 9am. They can be ordered up to three weeks in advance. If your child is absent please cancel before 9am. Reception children receive free school meals, Nursery can pay for theirs. If your child prefers a packed lunch these of course can be brought in from home. We are a nut free school and we do not have the facilities available in the classroom to heat up any food brought in from home. You are though more than welcome to send in warm food in a Thermos type container. We are happy to encourage your children to eat their lunch and we will let you know if they really do not enjoy it. Full children are happier children!
We are very grateful for the offer of any help in Class 1; parents, grandparents or friends of the school. If you are able to come in to help this could be occasionally, or regularly and could include listening to children read or being involved with art activities.
Best wishes,
Helen Ireland
