PTA Social Night
Hi everyone,
For those I haven’t met yet, I’m Lauran Shelmerdine, Leo Austin’s mum in Little Herons, and I’m really pleased to be taking on the role of PTA Chair this year. A huge thank you to Robin Collins for all her time, hard work and enthusiasm last year, and to everyone who helped along the way. Big shoes to fill!
At our first meeting, we talked about bringing more of our community together. Whether you’re a new family at Storth, an existing parent, a grandparent, a family whose children have moved on, or a neighbour or friend of the school, we’d love you to get involved.
We’re organising a relaxed social evening on Tuesday 13th October at JJ’s in Arnside, from 6pm onwards. Some of the PTA and school staff will be there for a drink and a chat. Come on your own or bring someone along—there’ll be a friendly welcome either way.
I know joining the PTA can sound a little daunting, but over the past year I’ve found it’s really about making friends and sharing the load. We know spare time is precious, and there’s no expectation to attend every meeting or help at every event. Sharing an idea, baking for a fundraiser or lending a hand occasionally all make a difference.
Please pass the invitation on to anyone who might like to come. You don’t need to have a child at the school to get involved.
Another date for your diary is Monday 19th October, when we’re adding a pre-loved clothing sale to our usual Bags2School collection. For anyone new to it, the scheme collects unwanted clothing for reuse and raises money for the school based on the weight donated.
Please bring your unwanted clothes into school on Monday morning, setting aside up to three items you think are “too good to donate” for the sale. We’ll sell these after school that day for £1 per item, with any extra donation welcome. All proceeds will go towards PTA funds, and any unsold clothes will go into the bags for collection on Tuesday 20th October.
Have a rummage and come along to find a bargain!
Thank you for your support. I’m looking forward to the year ahead, and if you see me in the playground, please say hello!
Best wishes,
Lauran Shelmerdine
