Dear Parents and Carers,
We are delighted to announce a whole-school sponsored walk on Friday, 15th May. This event is a wonderful opportunity for us to celebrate the end of the testing period, raise vital funds for the school, and enjoy the beautiful countryside right on our doorstep.
We need your support!
We have planned several routes of varying distances to suit the age and ability of every child:
· Little Herons: Our youngest learners will stay active by completing laps of the Heron Hall playing field.
· Class 1: A 1.5-mile (2.3 km) route with 25m of climb. Children will walk along the old railway cutting and through Storth Woods, returning via Yans Lane.
· Class 2: A 3.4-mile (5.5 km) route with 106m of climb. This path leads through the fields, up to Beetham Fell and then back to Cockshot Road, returning through Cockshot Woods.
· Class 3: A 5.5-mile (8.7 km) route with 152m of climb. This challenging walk takes in Beetham Fell, the Corn Mill, and the Deer Park.
· Class 4: Our longest route at 6.6 miles (10.5 km) with 168m of climb. This follows a similar path to Class 3 but includes an additional climb from Hazelslack up to the Fairy Steps.
Nursery or Little Herons
If your child is in Nursery or Little Herons and does not normally attend school on a Friday, they are more than welcome to join the fun, provided a parent or carer accompanies them for the duration of the activity.
Route Adjustments
If you feel your child would prefer a longer or shorter route than the one assigned to their class, please come and speak to us. If a child moves to a different route, we may ask a parent to accompany them to ensure we maintain safe adult-to-child ratios.
Thank you for your continued support of our school community.
Best regards,
Susan Goodfellow
