Class 1 – Reception and Nursery
Welcome back to the Summer term. I hope that you have all had a lovely Easter break. This half term we will be learning about the topics of ‘Colour’ and ‘Castles and Knights’, as well as continuing with our growing of plants that we started before the holidays.
The children have been thoroughly enjoying their new separate morning sessions, settling in well and making the most of the different spaces available to them. Nursery children should now be dropped off at the new classroom door, where they will be met by an adult. They will then have the opportunity to go outside to play if they wish to, with the rest of the school. Reception children should place their belongings in the gazebo on arrival and then go off to play.
As the weather gets warmer, please ensure that your child has a sun hat in school. Some children have a Storth sun hat in school. If you would like to purchase one of these, please do so through the link on the school website to Coniston Corporate; they are priced at £6.08. ANY sun hat, though, is fine, and it is actually easier for the children to identify their own different hats rather than finding theirs in a mass of green ones! Please ensure that you name your child’s hat.
Please apply sun cream before school when the weather is hot and sunny. If you would like sun cream reapplied to your child during the day, please send in a named bottle for their personal use only. We encourage the children to be as independent as possible in applying sun cream, so please practise this at home. We are, of course, there to help.
We are continuing with our reading challenge. It has been great seeing so many reading teddies going home each week. We really would like to thank you for your support in encouraging your child to enjoy books. The majority of children in the nursery classes have a bookbag and therefore are taking part in the reading challenge. If you would like to purchase a bookbag, these are £7.27 and can be purchased from Mrs Barker or through the link on the website to Coniston Corporate. https://www.conistonshop.com/Storth-CE-School_117/school/index.php
Reception Children – PE kits need to be returned to school if your child brought theirs home before the holidays for washing. Please ensure that they have shorts, a t-shirt, tracksuit bottoms/leggings, PE pumps or Velcro trainers, underwear and socks for spares.
Nursery Children – do not need to get changed for PE. We do PE on a Monday and a Wednesday, usually. Please send your child to school on these days in suitable clothing, e.g., leggings/tracksuit bottoms and trainers. Nursery children need to have spare clothing in a bag that can be left in school including underwear and socks. If your child has regular accidents or a tendency to attract mud and water, please include a few sets of underwear and trousers.
We really discourage the need for a rucksack. Lunchboxes with a handle do not need to be placed in an extra bag. Not only do we struggle for space, but the children really struggle to squash everything in independently.
All children receive free fruit each day and free milk until their fifth birthday. Once your child is 5, payment can be made via the CoolMilk website
Mrs Barker will be sending out an email with tuck costs for this term shortly. This is 20p per day for toast, rice cake or breadsticks. This is optional, but the majority of parents do pay for this snack. Please let me know if you are paying for tuck by BACs, I then do not have to ask Mrs Barker who has paid.
The cake raffle takes place every Friday, tickets are 50p each, and the draw takes place in assembly. The children are always very excited to have a ticket and have the chance to win the cake. Thank you for your continued support.
Many thanks
Helen Ireland
