Class 1

Welcome back to the new term in school. We have returned to the weather being very cold and many of the children are complaining of this. We have been talking about keeping our bodies warm and wearing appropriate clothing. Please ensure that your child has warm gloves, hat and a warm coat every day. If they like to wear leggings it might be worth wearing two pairs or a pair of tracksuit bottoms.

All children receive free fruit until the end of Year 2 and free milk until their fifth birthday. Once your child turns 5, you can pay for milk through the CoolMilk website. If you would like your child to have healthy tuck, it is 20p daily. Mrs Barker has sent out a letter with the amount to be paid. Please could you let me know if you have paid for this via BACs/Cash or if you do not want your child to have it. (The vast majority of children do, but it is optional).

This half term we will be learning about the topic of Winter, as well as the Arctic and Antarctic regions.

We will be doing PE on a Monday and a Wednesday. Please ensure that Reception children have brought their PE kits back into school. In their PE bag, they should have a Storth PE t-shirt, shorts, PE Pumps/trainers, socks, underwear, and tracksuit bottoms/leggings.

Nursery children do not need a separate PE kit, please send them to school in appropriate clothing on the day, eg tracksuit bottoms and trainers. All Nursery children require a spare set of clothing to be left in school, including underwear and socks in case of accidents or getting very messy or wet.

We really encourage your child to be as independent as possible. Getting ready to go home is a particularly tricky time, and when they have so much to carry, it can be difficult for many. Your child really does not need to carry a rucksack every day with spare clothes in; these can be left in school. If they bring a lunchbag with a handle, this can be carried rather than put into another bag. A hat and gloves can go in their bookbag if they are not wearing them.

It is so lovely that everyone has a bookbag and is able to take books home to share with their family at home. As we now have an increasing number of children in Class 1, we need to ask that the number of key rings/teddies, etc, hanging from the bookbag handles be reduced to one. These keyrings are so beneficial as the children (and adults) can quickly recognise a green bag, but we are really struggling for space!

Many thanks
