In Class 2, you will find children in Year 1 and Year 2, aged 5–7 years old. The class teacher is Miss Chant, and we are lucky to have two teaching assistants, Mrs Gleadow and Miss Parkinson, who support learning across the week. Spanish is taught by Mrs Lay, and every other Wednesday children enjoy a PE session with Mr Parkinson, a secondary school PE teacher.
Teaching and learning in Class 2 is topic-based, allowing children to explore themes through practical activities, investigations, enhanced provision and a range of visitors and visits that bring learning to life. Maths and Literacy are taught daily as structured lessons and are carefully tailored to meet the needs of each individual child. Phonics is also taught every day using the Read Write Inc. programme. Guided reading sessions take place within our phonics lessons, and children bring home books matched to their colour group to share with parents and carers.
We also enjoy termly visits from the library van, where children choose a book to read for pleasure. These are kept in our classroom reading area and used during independent reading time. Each afternoon, children take part in two foundation subject lessons. These include Music, Religious Education, PE, PSHE, Science, History, Geography, Computing, Spanish, Art, and Design and Technology, giving children a broad and engaging curriculum.
